The first phase of the longly anticipated highway from the city of Santo Domingo to the province of Samana is now in the final stages of completion.
Work will shortly begin on phase II that is from the finish of the highway to the town of Las Terrenas via the International Airoport at El Catey and then onto the town of Samana.
The office of public works here in the DR and its secretary Victor Diaz Rua have stressed that the first phase of the highway will be open in April. The original date was march but work had slowed due to the tropical storms of Noel and Olga and so the date has been pushed back to April.
It has been reported that 85% of the work has been completed on the first phase and that 41 miles of road have been paved!
the secretary also went on to say that the second phase starting at RINCÓN DE MOLINILLO, will coincide with the resurfacing of some parts of the roads from Nagua to Sanchez and Sanchez to Samana. Anyone travelling these roads over the last Six months will breathe a sigh of relief as driving conditions have been less than adequate!!!!
